Low pressure, granules intact
New Port Richey Roof Soft Washing & Algae Stain Removal
Those dark streaks running down the slopes are algae growing on the shingle surface, and moss holds damp against the asphalt. We lift both off at low pressure so the grit stays on the shingle, where it is still doing its job.
Why high pressure is the wrong tool
Granules are a shingle's sun shield, and on an older roof they are already loosely held because the asphalt underneath has dried. A pressure washer strips them off by the handful, which speeds up exactly the wear a homeowner is trying to slow. Soft washing relies on a cleaning solution and a gentle rinse instead of force, so the stains and growth come away and the surface underneath stays intact.
The dark algae runs that build up on shaded and humid slopes.
Mats that hold moisture against shingle edges and in the valleys.
Leaves and grit pulled out of valleys and gutters so water drains off cleanly.
How it works
How a soft wash goes
Cover what is below
Plants, beds and surfaces under the eaves are covered or wetted down before anything goes on the roof.
Apply gently
The cleaning solution goes on at low pressure and is left long enough to loosen the growth.
Rinse and clear
The roof is rinsed without force, and debris is cleared from the valleys and gutters.
Look again
With the stains gone, worn spots and cracked tabs are easier to see, which helps settle whether a treatment should follow.
Why wash before a treatment
Oil goes onto shingle, not grime
Rejuvenating oil belongs in the asphalt, not on top of a layer of algae, moss and dirt.
A truer read of the roof
Streaks hide granule loss and damage. After a wash, the assessment sees the shingles as they really are.
Grit stays put
Low pressure leaves the granules in place, which matters most on the aging roofs that come to us for treatment.
Tile gets cleaned too
Concrete and clay tile streak just as badly, and cleaning is the first half of our tile cleaning and sealing work.
Soft wash questions
Can I book a wash without a treatment?
Yes. A wash stands on its own when a roof is stained but otherwise healthy. Many roofs get both, the wash first and the shingle treatment after it.
Will the streaks come back?
In humid Gulf air, algae tends to return on any roof over time. We tell you what we see and when another wash might be worth it.
Clean the streaks off, keep the grit on
Call and describe what the roof looks like. We will price a soft wash and say whether a treatment should follow it.
